February Pet Giveaway Contest

Hi friends! For the past few weeks, I’ve been meaning to host this contest, but the month has just about gotten away from me. To celebrate February 2018, a month of love and figure skating, I’m hosting a pet give away contest based on my favorite show, Yuri on Ice. The highly popular anime series was recently promoted on NBC during the winter Olympics in Pyeongchang when pairs skaters from Japan skated to the song, Yuri on Ice, in the team short program. You do NOT have to watch the series to participate in this contest (although it may be helpful).

Contest rules: Below is a crossword puzzle to solve based on the 11 trivia questions provided. The answers can all be found in the first season (12 episodes of Yuri on Ice). You may submit the answers in crossword puzzle format, or you may simply present the answer to each question in numbered format. The first person to correctly answer all 11 questions (with 100% accuracy) will win a code for a free pet. To enter, you must post your answers on this forum under the current open post, and you must be able to receive emails from Momskinz. The contest will remain open until the puzzle is solved or until February 28, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. EST, whichever occurs first.

Prize: The first person to correctly answer all 11 questions with 100% accuracy (spelling counts) will receive their choice of ONE free pet code. The winner may choose from these four Webkinz pets: a seasonal love kitten, a signature Siamese cat, a signature bull terrier, or a deluxe membership panda cub (virtual pet only, membership not included). The code will be forwarded to Momskinz, who will forward it to the winner.

If you have any questions, please ask! I will provide NO hints regarding the answers. However, if someone is close to solving the puzzle but without perfect accuracy, I will post that they are “close”. Let the game begin! 😀

You may need to click the link to see the crossword puzzle. The questions are posted below.

  1. Representing Japan, placed 6th at the figure skating Grand Prix Final: Yuri _______ .
  2. Victor Nikiforov: world figure skating champion from ______ .
  3. Victor leaves competitive figure skating to become Yuri’s _____ .

  5. Choreographs a program for both Yuris: ______ .
  6. After Victor agrees to stay in Japan, Yuri Katsuki asks him to be his coach until he _______ .
  7. After successfully making it through the qualifying round, Yuri competes against his friend, Phichit of Thailand, and Christophe Giacometti of Switzerland at the Cup of _____ .
  8. Yuri Katsuki must then face his number one rival, at the Cup of Rostelecom in Russia, Yuri _________ .
  9. Narrowly making it into finals, Yuri and Victor head to the Grand Prix Finals in _________ .
  10. Victor tells Yuri that he will continue as his coach only if he wins ____ .

Moms, is anybody going to make a page with the puzzles RubyCubes posted around Christmas? I can make the page if you, RubyCubes, or Zingyginger don’t want or have time to make it. Would people go back and try to solve the puzzles, though? I think Zingyginger suggested the page idea originally.

    Patsie – You’re close! 😀

Dee – Your corn salsa recipe sounded SO good! I’m normally more of a fresh tomato salsa kind of gal, but ever sine you posted the recipe, I’ve had the worst craving for some homemade sweet corn salsa. I went to the store today and got everything to make it. I’m hoping to have time to put it together tomorrow. I’ll let you know how it turns out.

Amber – I hope all is still well for you and your family and little ME! No rush, but give us a little update when you have time (which may not be for another 18 years :D). I’ve been thinking about you a lot. If you’re not already home from the hospital, I hope you get to come home soon. Warm hugs to you all!

Well, my kid went back to school today. Other than a little bit of a lingering cough, we’ve pretty well recovered from the flu, and somehow, my husband must have really good faction with the Influenza gods, because despite being cooped up in this house 24/7 for the past two weeks, he hasn’t even had a sniffle. I’m thinking he’s probably out of the woods now too. If he was going to get it, he would have probably started showing symptoms before now. I envy his immune system! (his figure skating prowess… not so much)

On the down side, we found out today that my daughter is probably going to need surgery in a couple weeks. I say probably because we are going to get a second opinion just to be sure, but we have surgery scheduled for March 15. I swear, I’m going to win Munchausen Mother of the Year Award. The kid just had surgery in November for something completely unrelated. I took her to see a pediatric podiatrist today because she has recurring ingrown toenails and a lot of arch pain when she skates. She’s flat-footed, so that’s not extremely surprising, but we were hoping he could make some recommendations to help her toes and arches.

He addressed those concerns, but in the process of examining her feet, he noticed that one of her ankles is really floppy and asked if she has ever had a serious injury to it. Three years ago, she had a really bad sprain to that ankle when she was jumping on a trampoline at gymnastics. It swelled up like a giant purple lemon, and she was in an air boot and on crutches for a couple weeks. I took her to an orthopedic urgent care the evening it happened. They did xrays, nothing broken, just a sprain. We did all the follow up, everything was healing “fine”. She went through a couple weeks of physical therapy. The therapist told us that she had weak, floppy ankles, so it was really important for her to do the prescribed exercises, which she has done periodically.

But she falls all the time. It has been a running joke at our house for years. She has always been super clumsy, which is why I’ve always tried to keep her in some kind of sport or activity that requires balance and coordination. Ice skating is the anomaly for her. She is the most non-athletic kid I’ve ever met, and she is always walking into walls and tripping and stubbing her toes. And it’s not her eyes; we’ve had them tested. She has perfect visual acuity. Every time she runs, or even walks fast, or even walks slowly, I cringe because she just trips or loses her balance and falls all the time. I had her at urgent care last week for a hip injury because, while she was at school, she got out of her desk and fell into the splits and hyper extended one of her legs, and she could barely move it. That’s the second time she has done that this year at school.

And a couple months ago, we were coming out of Kroger. She was wearing dress shoes and it was raining. I kept telling her to pay attention, the floor was wet, it looked slippery, yadda yadda yadda. She was fine until we got back to the car. We were parked next to a curb with a grass mound and a tree. She stepped into the grass, lost her balance, and fell over the curb.

It’s the weirdest thing with ice skating though. Put this incredibly clumsy child, who will sprain her ankle just walking across the lawn, on a thin, sharp metal blade on a sheet of slick ice, and she becomes this graceful ballerina. She has fallen a number of times while skating, but she knows how to fall safely, and she has never injured herself. At this point though, she rarely even falls. She has so much confidence on the ice. I’m thinking, how does this happen that the kid can’t walk safely, but she can skate beautifully? And now I actually have an answer that makes sense.

Her skates are extremely high quality, competition level skates with very strong ankle support. According to the doctor we saw today, who is a pediatric foot and ankle specialist, the ankle she injured 3 years ago in the gymnastics accident was a lot more serious than we realized and was misdiagnosed. He took xrays of her ankle today, and apparently she ruptured two ligaments in her ankle 3 years ago, and despite all the xrays, followup, and physical therapy, nobody realized that her foot was not in proper alignment. So the ligaments healed, but they did not heal properly. According to this doctor, when they came back together, the foot was not properly aligned, so the ligaments are like stretched out rubber bands that let her foot wobble away from the ankle. So her ankle turns out on her all the time, which is why she is so prone to falling. And the reason she doesn’t fall on the ice is because of amount of ankle support provided by her skates.

So he said she needs surgery to repair the ligaments in her ankle. He will have to remove them and replace them with human donor ligaments, so she’ll end up with a tissue transplant. And then she will go into a cast, on crutches, and be totally non-weight bearing for at least a month, maybe more. I’m like… are you kidding me? So yeah… of course my husband and daughter are already referring to each other as twins, planning to get matching casts. Rainbow now…. Sigh. Yes, apparently that is a thing. They can do a rainbow striped cast. You should have seen my husband’s face light up when he heard that.

This is going to be a loooooonnnngggg 2 months.

Everything the doctor said today made perfect sense. It fits what we’ve observed. Just to be on the safe side, before putting her under surgery, I’m going to get a second opinion. We already have a follow up appointment scheduled with the orthopedic doctor who xrayed her hip last week when she fell at school, so I’m going to ask that doctor to examine her ankle too and see if she agrees with this doctor’s diagnosis. Assuming the consensus is that she needs surgery, she is scheduled for March 15. She has four doctors appointments between now and then, most of them for presurgical testing and the like. And my husband has an appointment this week too.

I feel like all I do is run these two to doctors appointments, and I’m going to have both of them in casts, and then both of them going to physical therapy. My daughter turns 16 next month, and she was planning to test for her driving permit, but now she won’t be able to start learning to drive for at least a couple months. Craziness! Sorry for the long rant; I’m still processing all of this. I swear I just took the kid in for an ingrown toenail. I don’t why I’m surprised about this. I took her to the doctor for abdominal pain last year, and her doctor happened to notice on the CT scan, completely unrelated to her symptoms, that she had abnormal kidney development. So we ended up seeing a nephrologist. Apparently, she only has one functioning kidney, which is plenty, but still…. Come on!

And we have had several things like that happen. We go to a doctor for something we think is completely routine or benign, and they’re like, oh… by the way… we are running a special this week! Buy two diagnoses of unrelated origin, get the third free!

And I’m like… just call me Munchausen, cuz all the other doctors are going to before long. This is crazy. LOL

    @Patsie

I figured the answer to 11 was finger because the question mentions Yuri’s neck, which is also body part. The other reason was because I’ve seen the show and towards the end of the season SPOILERS Victor proposes to Yuri and gives him a gold engagement ring.

I wish more people would enter the contest, but the crossword is difficult without Google if you haven’t watched the show.

Found this site because I was looking for the expiring community codes since it is the last day of February. Your list is very useful! Thanks for posting it.

    Hi everyone!

Sorry I’ve been awol. After making my hon help me get ready for family visiting then taking them out and about then cleaning up after, I’ve decided we needed time just the two of us to just go out and play so we’ve been pokemon-ing (is that a verb?). He’s still getting physical therapy but is more active now especially when no steps or hills are involved. And playing pokemon go distracts him from time spent walking so we both get a bit more exercise.

Congrats Amberrose on the arrival of ME – so happy to read that your delivery went well and hopefully you’re home now and recovering with your bundle of joy.

Rubycubes, thanks for another awesome contest! Am sitting this one out as I’ve won earlier. Hugs to you for having to endure the flu then hearing about your daughter needing surgery. I wonder if she can have it after your dh is up and about so you can have backup if you need it (or at least get a bit of a break before taking on another patient at home).

Belated happy birthday to shellybrayley! Sounds like you had a wonderful day – so well-deserved!

dee, you have a boat! How did that never come up in conversation until now? How often do you take it out? And where’s that corn salsa recipe? That apple cake sounds yummy.

Belated thank you to gagagee, rubycubes, catmom & cheese for the generous giftz! Now that it’s gotten cold and occasionally rainy, I’m thinking we’ll be spending some time indoors again and I’d be able to do some decorating in WW.

Welcome, Kat & Stella! We love meeting new people so do jump in and tell us a bit about yourselves (how did you get into WW? how long have you been playing? Do you have a favorite pet?

Zingyginger – I got into WW a few years ago when I got a plush as a gift. I play in my free time. My favorite pet is my polar bear.

    @zingyginger

Thank you! It’s hard to find a community for Webkinz users, so I’m glad I found this one! I’ve been playing for 11 years now, I can’t believe it’s been that long! I got my first pet as a christmas gift and I haven’t really stopped since. My favorite pet is the Love Puppy because I was born on Valentine’s Day so any pet I can shower in Valentine’s gifts is good for me!

Sorry I haven’t been back sooner. I’ve been really busy the last couple days.

Kat – Welcome to the forum! You nailed it. All of your answers are correct. Congratulations! Does Momskinz have your email address? If so, please let me know which pet code you want, and I will email it to Moms to forward to you. I hope you stick around and tell us more about yourself. 🙂

Stella – Welcome to the forum as well! The polar bear is adorable.

Patsie – You were very close! Nicely done. Kat answered all the questions correctly, so there is no need to extend the competition. With regard to number 11, her explanation is correct, albeit a spoiler. In the last few episodes, despite having said he would only stay with Yuri if he won a gold metal at the Grand Prix, Victor contemplates the gold medal band on his finger, the symbolism of their engagement, and decides to stay anyway.

Moms – That’s a good point about my daughter’s skates. When she got back into skating last fall, she told me that she needed good skates with strong ankle support, but they were insanely expensive. So she ended up using her entire savings to buy them herself. At the time, I thought it was a bit indulgent, but now I’m glad she insisted on them.

Zingy – Welcome back! I’ve missed you. I’m glad your hubby is getting around now and able to walk outside. Mine will be so happy when he gets to that point. I really wish that we could wait a bit for my daughter’s surgery, but due to our insurance, it really needs to happen this month. We have an amazing plan right now through my husband’s employer. His leg/ankle surgery was over $26,000. That, combined with the ER visit, all the follow up visits and xrays, his medical bills have been over $30,000. All we’ve had to pay out of pocket is $300 for copays. The rest has been 100% covered. Unfortunately, our plan is going change April 1, and it has a fairly high deductible. I’d rather take care of them both than pay that deductible. Have I ever mentioned how much I hate the American health care system?

I haven’t gotten to the corn salsa yet. I’m hoping to have time tomorrow, or for sure, on Friday. I also bought the ingredients to make Katsudon. For those of you who have watched Yuri on Ice, you’ll know that it’s also called a tasty pork cutlet bowl. Ever since my daughter watched the show, she has been begging me to make it for her. Apparently it’s a very common Japanese dish, so I found a recipe for it. I’m going to make myself a tofu version since I don’t eat meat. I was going to make it last weekend, but with the flu, we couldn’t smell or taste much, so I’m planning to make it this weekend. I’ll let you all know how it turns out.

I’m so tired. I’m going to take a little nap and then hopefully have time to play some WW this evening. Thank you for posting the codes! Also don’t forget that it’s the last day to complete your February challenge.

    welcome kat & stella!

zingy – i’ve missed you! glad you had time with your honey!

ruby – i’m glad you can get her surgery in while you have the good insurance! the variation in what medical care and drugs cost drives me nuts – i do not want socialized medicine based on what my friends who have lived in Japan for many years have shared, but i do think all healthcare should have more of a fair market value

Kat, congratulations on solving the puzzle and welcome to the blog.

Welcome Stella. I own two Webkinz polar bears because I got my other Grandma’s polar bear after she died. It is interesting because I originally gave it to her as a gift.

RubyCubes, will you allow people to pick the pet code they want in the future?

Thank you again for being so generous and for making fun puzzles for us to solve. 🙂

    DEE,
Thought I had posted last night, but I don’t see it lol..
If you want to make paw prints using your cats paw just use non toxic acrylic paint.. I have.. works well, just hold tight and have wipes handy to clean or you might end up with prints all over your house lol…
I used to put our dogs print on families xmas cards or birthday cards, etc…and on thank you notes from him as my family always bought him birthday and xmas gifts..lol
