    you found it?! woo hoo!!!!

    how is your finger?

i saw the email, just haven’t had the chance to do anything – i’ve been doing that school research we’ve talked about – this process is challenging!

so basically, you can transfer schools if the school in your district doesn’t offer a “career path” course such as law enforcement, teaching profession, entrepreneurship, etc. but musical theater doesn’t count??? but wait – they have a fine arts career path, but the fine arts don’t count??? so frustrated and really do not want to battle the entire school board

  21. 21 momskinz (WWID: momsownkinz) said,

no vouchers, but these things qualify:
    Computer Science
    Engineering & Technology
    Entrepreneurship
    Food & Nutrition
    Law Enforcement/Criminal Investigation
    Sports Medicine
    Surgical Tech
    Teaching as a Profession
    Web & Digital Design

Musical Theater does not, even though the other school offers a 4 year program for that, and this school doesn’t offer a single class in MT … *bangs head against wall*

I know there is a lottery here for out of district kids to get into a certain school (which boggles my mind as it is not that great of a school)

  28. 28 stagemom (WWID: stagemom, ozshares) said,

    February 3, 2016 @ 7:14 pm

Momz, I feel your pain, been there done that! We went through the same issue here with Chickadee. She went to small private school and wanted to transfer to a public charter school that had a theater arts program for middle school. We did the lottery and she didn’t get in so she stayed at her private school.
She wanted to try again for high school and applied for a transfer to the top rated theater high school in the district. They did not have a lottery but offered a few in-district transfers. The process was almost like applying for college or a job. She had to submit a theater experience resume along with references and her school transcript, I believe she even had to attend an interview. Chickadee was accepted by the school and went there for first two years of high school. Then she decided she didn’t want to do theater anymore and went back to private school.

We do have a local performing arts high school but we live in the wrong school district so she wasn’t able to attend that school. She is currently attending the local community college and wouldn’t you know, we are out-of-district for that too. She can attend there but we have to pay extra out of district fees.

stagemom – there are two codes.
an adorable tuxedo and an equally adorable dresser

we kind of did the school thing in AK………I switched dd to the school they wanted to bus her to for talented and gifted. both were equal distant away. I do remember having to get references (which was fine as I was co girl scout leader at that school anyways and knew parents – plus I like to think my volunteering rep helped!)
moving here, we researched prior to see better school areas (we, meaning me) and county schools had higher ratings and still do. we pretty much lucked out tho, by dds new school being built and all the Richie riches wanting to live out this way…………..altho – they built a new elementary school smack dab in the middle of a very rich subdivision and them kids are not doing too well.(not awful, just not as spectacular as all the rich/busy parents thought )………I think they lack diversification/life obstacles/exposure

but that is my opinion on the last bit

32 dee, no we are in Texas in the U.S.

We purchased our house in one of the “better” school districts with higher taxes and other than Chickadee’s two years in public high school we didn’t utilize the public schools. It’s ironic to me that most of the people in our neighborhood continue to pay those higher taxes and get nothing in return because most of us send our kids to private religion based schools or home-school.

We chose to send Chickadee to a private Christian school because of her being twice exceptional, she has learning differences and emotional issues but also an incredibly high IQ. When I met with the neighborhood elementary they did not seem to have the ability to provide the individualized instruction we were looking for. I considered homeschooling but felt that Chickadee needed both the socialization and structure of a school as well as needing to learn to be apart from me. She had such severe separation anxiety I ended up being asked to stay on campus to be on hand to comfort her if needed. They were so patient and accommodating right from the beginning and we knew we made the right choice for Chickadee.

Hello my friends, I hope everyone is having a great week 🙂

Here in Ontario Canada to Graduate Highschool you need : 4 english credits, 3 math credits, 2 science credits, 1 Canadian geography, 1 Canadian History credit, 1 arts credit, 1 french credit, 1 credit in careers & civics ( .5 in each ) , 1 credit in health & physical education, Plus 3 credits from a list of classes that are School chosen. Plus 12 optional credits = a total of 30 credits & you must also have 40 hours of community service & pass Provincial literacy test.

    Hope that helps Dee
Bye for now my friends

I would do languages, they would fill out the rest……..being military and moving all the time, never really bonded to set the whole thing up. altho I truly believe dd being exposed to so many different types of folks has helped her……….just gets me on my soapbox that stuff should be nationalized (immunizations, gifted programs, birthdates) not everything as I understand local community inputs, but the big stuff…..for goodness sakes…shots!
and why on earth is a child gifted in Arkansas and Alaska, but not in other states? same tests

in highschool there is 3 kinds of courses : academic, applied & locally developed. you can also d a mixture of the 3 depending on your strengths and weaknesses of the courses you are taken. as long as you have the requirements in m last post then you will receive a diploma. As for college or university you need a Highschool diploma to apply & $$ to pay for school, of course there are ways to get $$ to go to school.

Is that the info you wanted ?

  41. 41 Chococat663 said,

    February 3, 2016 @ 9:47 pm

I’m in canada, but the school i went to had pretty low requirements for graduation. Half of my junior year and almost all of my senior year were electives. During my senior year i took an ap english class all year, a trimester of trig (had planned to take it all year, but dropped it after one trimester because i had an awful teacher and wasn’t able to transfer classes) and a trimester of astronomy, but that class was super easy. The rest of my classes were just electives.

  42. 42 Chococat663 said,

    February 3, 2016 @ 9:49 pm

I know they’ve changed a few of the requirements since I graduated. They added a requirement for 2 years of a foreign language and I think they changed something with the science requirements, or it might have been the social studies requirements, I’m not sure.

Hello!!!! started feeling like twilight zone in here. 🙂

sky is brighter, snow looks wetter and drippy as opposed to those nice cotton ball flakes we had. 🙁 and I didn’t take any pictures. :-/

we’re 34 and snowy, crazy 🙂 the falling snow is wet and dwindling. what is on the trees is falling to the ground now. *sigh*
