Hi all! MAN it’s been a long year this week.

I quit the kennel job on day one. I went in the day before for orientation. It’s been a while since I was in a workplace setting, and a while since I’ve been around many people. I was only there for an hour, but when I got home, I had a terrible ADHD/oerstimulation/frustration/overwhelmed meltdown and ended up crying nonstop for 2 hours. That night was more tears, fretfulness, anger, anxiety, depressive fits.

When I got to work the next day, I learned that even though I applied for a “kennel attendant” job, they onboarded me for “vet assistant”, and the actual kennel tasks are done witin 2 hours, and the rest of the day is standing around in the clinic, waiting for someone to grab you to restrain an animal for a procedure. The kennel part- walking, cleaning, disinfcting, feeding- was JOY, I LOVE that kind of work. The clinic part was AWFUL and I didn’t even make it an hour into that before I found a supervisor and quit on the spot. I don’t know much about veterinary medicine- I’ve never wanted to be a vet. But I was expected to hold animals for procedures that made me incredibly uncomfortable, both from a biologial point of view (I sometimes faint when witnessing an injection or blood draw), but also from an ethical point of view. I learned about a procedure that appeared fairly routine, and our cat even apparently had it done this spring when she was ill, but I will request that she NOT undergo that procedure again now that I’ve seen it firsthand. I would not have applied for a job like this. This was so far beyond my comfort level and interest and skills, that I was not a good fit no matter how good the $$ was.

So I went home early, and there was no more crying, no more anxiety, no more anger. I feel disappointed, but I do not feel regret over the decision. Kiddo and I broke out Husband’s old Lite Brite and played with that all afternoon.

That night, I had nightmares about the cat dying. I couldn’t be around all those sick, injured, ill, and dying animals for very long anyway. It was the right choice to leave.

Moms, totally spring for an air purifier. I hear they can make a lot of difference, especially with a UV-C light and a good HEPA filter. You can get some good ones for about $100, too which isn’t awful. Do you and the kids take extra vitamin D, C, and zinc? Vitamin D is showing to be very important in whether you get a severe case, or a mild one. We take 5,000IU a day around here, and get outdoor time. It’s a lot, maybe a little too much, but low vitamin D levels take a while to get up to a good range again, and are chronic in this country, ESPECIALLY in the winter.

Thank you, Grandma001, for all the Happy Mail you sent Kiddo! He’d not been on for a few days, and he had a backlog of packages to open- fences and belts and clothes- all his favorites! I tried to sit him down to have him compose a thank you note, but he JUST discovered that he has the hand-eye coordination to Whack Wacky in Wacky Extreme, so he went right to that LOL. (THAT SONG< IT HAUNTS ME)

Yd has opted for the virtual learning for her high school because of having asthma and cleaner allergies. But we have the box of PPE for OD as well. Hadn’t heard about getting an air purifier. Thanks for the info. Already have them on vit D. It is OD last semester and she has mostly hybrid classes, a mix of virtual and in person, plus her senior project. I attended the virtual parent meeting and the university has managed to keep about 40 percent of the student body at home and seriously cut back on the number of people expected to be on campus at any time. All campus activities are required to offer a virtual component so distance learners and those who would rather not go in person can still participate. Sports seem to be limited to tennis and yoga outside.

    Good Morning !
moms.. I didn’t think of an air purifying system either… Will talk to my sister about it ! We are on countdown !
Puma… Sorry to hear that your job didn’t go well…Maybe something else will come your way !
Sheba… How are you doing with setting up your school year for the kids ?
I would imagine it is so much planning and work to get ready.
tmt… seems like most of the local schools around here are giving the parents an option on whether to send their kids to school or keep classes virtual .
I am able to my mom out for a walk ( in her w/c) around the facility.. It was a picture perfect day ! I think she enjoyed getting out and visiting without a screen…She seems to need much encouragement to go to the dining room.
She says the dining room has old ladies who can’t hear !! Thought that was so funny….
Back to work today… but I guess I am ready…
Hope you all stay well and have a good day

    Good morning all!

dee—I looked up that lake we talked about. I still can’t find any info on any festivals involving lady parts. They probably don’t advertise it on the community calendar! LOL I think you need to send the pic. Hope the fishing day was fun.

gaga—Glad to hear the cake was good and you had good family time even if the weather didn’t cooperate. I just read that OSU quarantined a whole sorority from a covid outbreak. My nephew was so excited about going to Michigan State, but all but one class was online learning, so he changed the one class and is staying home and learning online for his first semester of college. I’m happy he will be safe, but so sad he won’t get a real college experience. So wonderful you got to see you mom and she was able to get outside for some sunshine and fresh air.

moms/tmt—I would totally look into an air purifier with his asthma. We take extra Vit. C, D and zinc as well.

LL—Learning a new job is always mentally exhausting for me too. Hopefully you are enjoying learning everything and will love the job.

puma—I am so sorry about your job. Very glad you listened to yourself and left before it cause you any more distress. I also could never be a vet tech, I’m way too sensitive and would be a crying mess every day.

CWC—Hi, and I miss all your exclamation points!!!!!

sheba—Sorry about your blah day. I get sad hangover whenever my family leaves from a visit too. I love going for drives with my dh too. We are comfortable is silence together on long drives.

Hi Gwenda and everyone I missed!

    Hello everyone!

Gaga – Thanks for asking about my classes. It really is nothing compared to what full-time teachers are going through right now. So I shouldn’t complain. BUT, some days it seems so overwhelming. I kinda’ need to put some of FLY Lady’s baby steps into action here to manage it. Other days I am so excited about it and it doesn’t seem like a big deal. Part of the problem is that I wanted to do a major overhaul of my “class” files for lessons and I didn’t get it all done. But then dd came and we did a major overhaul of 24+ years of homeschooling stuff! That was a major accomplishment ….very emotional, yet freeing at the same time. It has been difficult to know how to plan because I wasn’t even sure until last week if I was going to be teaching. I have five classes, but I cancelled one due to enrollment of one. My other classes are quite low, too. Anyway, I think once I knock out some of my “to do” list I will gain a bit more confidence about the year. The goal is to get materials ready for 7-8 weeks for parents to pick-up. I hope to get most of that done before my vacation in eleven days.

April – Today is better…..amazing what a good night’s sleep will do!

ran home and put pretty new hair in a ponytail and fired up the grill
saw four hummingbirds AT THE SAME TIME at the feeder.
never saw that many at once…………..woo hoo
then the bully bird chased them all off

I don’t choose to play pumpkin patch protector, but I don’t really mind it. Finished four accounts (mine, my dd’s, my granddaughter’s and my son-in-law’s) for round 1 of challenge. I decided that I like pumpkin patch more than smoothie moves.

Dee – I’m sure you can do PPP if you are such a good shot! 🙂 You must not of cut much of your hair off if you can put it in a ponytail! And how cool about the hummingbirds! I would be quite shocked if I saw my first Webkinz pet in my backyard (an elephant). LOL!

I wonder about schools that are opening up….so much in the news about schools deciding to go online after planning to be in person. Tmt5 – Does that mean your daughter will be online or is she pre-med?

Not much luck with party packs. Sorry to see them go, but yet they are no use if they don’t work. Dear granddaughter spent too much KC on party packs earlier this year and was quite disappointed when some of them didn’t work. I told her not to buy them anymore. But seriously, it was so much fun to go to another Webbie’s house! Wasn’t it possible at one time to invite someone over without a party? It is vaguely in my memory that my girls used to love doing that!

Gaga- Thanks again for all the gifts! Knocking things off my wish list! ♥

You will have to keep us posted on what air purifier you go with, Moms!
We used to have one a long time ago! But it has been ages.

My dh just did some car repair on his car by watching youtube video and buying correct part. Save him at least $100. I said that I would take it and he teased me about starting another American Girl doll fund. (I bought one with birthday money this year). But I didn’t have that in mind.

QoS – i was looking at several, but i ended up buying the Honeywell AirGenius 5 based on the washable filters (can use washable or replaceable which is nice & apparently i was thinking like dee), and consumer reports likes it

i wanted one that wasn’t too big or too too expensive (all of the higher rated ones by consumer reports are way more expensive that i want to spend), so i compared with some others & figured out this one costs about $100 more than a couple that i was seriously considering; however, the filters would cost that much within a year
